About The Uganda Marathon
The Uganda Marathon – A Race Like No Other is Uganda’s premier running event. Famous for its incredible scenery, amazing atmosphere and utterly unique community feel, not only is it Uganda’s largest race but it is also the largest public fundraiser and supports hundreds of vulnerable groups in the community.
We pride ourselves on welcoming runners from all over the globe to take on our 42K, 21K or 10K races through the stunning rural African countryside. From elite runners leading the pack, to first timers who are there to take on a challenge of a lifetime.
This event is made possible by The Uganda Marathon – An Adventure Like No Other! A 7-day, once in a lifetime trip that brings 200 international travellers to Masaka to explore Ugandan culture and volunteer for grass root NGOs, having fundraised money that will go directly to these projects.
Since our inaugural race, the marathon has attracted thousands of runners to Masaka to try their hand at the course. The total money raised for charity has exceeded $500,000 making it Uganda’s largest ever public fundraiser.
Over the years, The Uganda Marathon has won Best International Event at the 2016 UK Running Awards, been named in the top 12 Marathons in the World by Red Bull, and was nominated for Best for Poverty Reduction at the World Responsible Tourism Awards. We have also gained the full support of the Ugandan government, several large charities and NGOs working in the country, hundreds of runners and adventurers and – most importantly – the local community of Masaka.
At 7am on June 1st, 2019, the starting gun will fire for the 5th Uganda Marathon, and 5,000 runners will take to the dirt paths and hills of Masaka to be a part of A Race Like No Other! Will you join them?
